Wizards and warriors take over country estate
Brokeloh, Germany - Role-playing enthusiasts from three continents gathered on Thursday at a German country estate to act out a fictitious story involving medieval knights and barbarians.
About 4 500 people from Asia, the United States and Europe were expected to take part in the Mythodea enactment at the 120-hectare Brokeloh Estate, adopting roles including wizards, warriors and wenches.
The 200 organisers have employed 180 tons of scenery and props to turn the site into a fake medieval world of woods, lakes and meadows for the live-action role-playing (LARP) event, lasting until Sunday.
Carina Lehmeier, 24, a German hairdresser, was draped in red, yellow and orange as the fiery spirit Fernaro, a character in the Mythodea story. "I like dressing up and being in another world," she explained.
Similar LARP events are planned later this year in Denmark, next year in the United States and later in Italy and Japan.
